Be YOU is the first of its kind: a community-tested, research-informed curriculum that addresses minority stress in LGBTQ+ youth and allies.
About Be YOU
Be YOU (Young, Outspoken, Unbreakable) is an online Social Emotional Learning curriculum developed by Out Youth, in partnership with Communities In Schools of Central Texas and the University of Texas Population Research Center. The easy to implement program incorporates an eclectic mix of therapeutic approaches from positive psychology and mindfulness to art and music therapy - all aimed at supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of middle and high school youth experiencing minority stress.
Designed to be implemented in a school or community-based setting, Be YOU provides structured lessons and activities facilitators can use to help youth care for their inside worlds while influencing their outside worlds for the better.
Do you need concise information about Be YOU to share with a stakeholder or decision-maker?
How does Be YOU work?
Through structured lessons and activities, facilitators can provide a safe, supportive opportunity for participants to positively engage with others. Be YOU teaches tangible strategies to help youth tend to their inner worlds so they can positively influence the outside world.
Why Does Be YOU exist?
Many youth face real barriers to participating in traditional therapy and accessing LGBTQ+ community centers. Be YOU brings this life-saving support directly to the teen.
Is Be YOU effective?
Yes. The lessons and activities in Be YOU are evidence-based. Research findings compiled by the SOGI Health & Rights Lab at the University of Texas at Austin statistically show Be YOU increased emotional regulation and decreased rumination (dwelling on negative thoughts) for students who participated in the program.
